A Night of Reunions, Red Carpet Glamour, And Nostalgia
The 75th Emmy Awards was not just a celebration of television’s finest moments but also a night of reunions. Katherine Heigl, joined friends and former Grey’s Anatomy castmates Ellen Pompeo, Justin Chambers, James Pickens Jr., and Chandra Wilson, to present one of the evenings awards and also pay tribute to the show which begins a 20th season in March.
Katherine Heigl's Dazzling Red Carpet Return
After a decade away from the Emmys, Katherine made a dazzling return to the red carpet. Clad in a stunning bright red gown by Reem Acra, she exemplified Hollywood glamour. The dress featured a strapless silhouette with a curved neckline, floral adornments, and diamond embellishments. Her look was completed with Rahaminov Diamonds jewelry, pin-up curls, and bold red lipstick that perfectly matched her gown.
Heigl’s excitement about dressing up for the 75th Emmy Awards was also palpable and she confessed to Extra before the show that it was a refreshing change to go glam, since she “lives in sweatpants” at her ranch in the Utah mountains.
The creation of Katherine Heigl’s Emmy look was a collaborative effort. Styled by Deborah Watson, with makeup by Elaine Offers Woulard and hair by Jonathan Hanousek, the team worked meticulously to bring together a look that was both timeless and contemporary. Her dress, combined with her own “sparkly” Christian Louboutin shoes and Rahaminov jewelry, was a nod to classic Hollywood, while also showcasing a modern edge.
Katherine’s husband Josh Kelley was her +1 for the evening and the couple posed affectionately for photographers on the red carpet. Kelley, who was also styled by Watson, wore a classic suit by Don Morphy.
A Reunion To Remember
Arguably the highlight of the awards show was the reunion of the Grey’s Anatomy cast. The alums took to the stage to present the Emmy for “Best Supporting Actor In A Limited or Anthology Series Or Movie”, and in homage to the show they stood in a recreation of the hospital set.
This segment was not just about handing over the award, but a tribute to the enduring legacy of the medical drama and its contribution to television.
Ellen Pompeo’s reflection on the impact of “Grey’s Anatomy” since its first episode in 2005 set the tone for the reunion, acknowledging the show’s influence and the strong bonds formed among the cast. Katherine, with her characteristic charm and a knowing wink to the camera, spoke about the changes over the years and the constant support of their fans. This sentiment was echoed by Chandra Wilson, who highlighted the audience’s loyalty through the show’s many dramatic twists and turns. James Pickens Jr.’s heartfelt thanks to the fans underscored the significance of their support in making “Grey’s Anatomy” the longest-running prime time medical drama in U.S. TV history.
Reflections and Memories
Pre-show Heigl reflected on reuniting with her former co-stars, expressing her excitement and joy at seeing them. It was a moment of reconnection and reminiscence, especially as Katherine had not seen some of her colleagues since her departure from “Grey’s Anatomy” 15 years ago.
During a night of reconnections, Katherine also caught up with Laverne Cox who was hosting the event for TV show E!. The duo shared the screen in the short-lived legal drama Doubt, which was also created by former Grey’s Anatomy producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater.
There was also time for Katherine and Josh to take a few photographs of their own, shooting selfies with screen legend Harrison Ford and Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe.
The 75th Emmy Awards was held at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles, hosted by Anthony Anderson, and broadcast live on Fox. The event, originally scheduled for 2023, but delayed by both the writers’ and actors’ strikes, took place on January 15, 2024.

Think you for every moment make me smile ❤️
You will always be my favorite!
Katherine,
I just wanted to take this moment in time to express how much I really have enjoyed your acting throughout the years. you are definitely one of my favorite actresses. you are very versatile which I love. you can also make me laugh which isn’t easy. I also love how compassionate you are with animals. The amount of rescues you have been involved with just blows my mind. You are very intelligent and the food you have created for the animals is so amazing. When I heard that you are an animal advocate, I just was ecstatic. I have also spent my entire life advocating for our furry voiceless friends. I also was a vet tech and I graduated from Animal Behavior College as a certified dog obedience trainer. I lost my furry soulmate to cancer 10 years ago and I swear it feels like yesterday. There is a hole in my heart that will always be there. His name was Dank but I called him Uberdoodlenoodlehead. I wish I knew you so that I could get further educated in animal husbandry and to be able to get the chance to laugh more because I need it. I live in Seattle. Does your company ever come over this way? I would love to know so that I could attend the event. I used to help with rescues and rehoming and sending certain dogs to various therapy training classes. I am in desperate need of a companion right now because of my PTSD and depression. I am so truly sorry you lost your brother. I know how that feels because I lost 2 sisters. Katherine, I am so happy I was able to send a message to you. take care and enjoy life!! 🌏✌️🐕🦺🐩🦮🐕🦺🐈⬛🐈🫶🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾🐾☯️☮️🕉️
