On February 16th, Katherine Heigl and Harry Connick Jr. were guests on The Today Show to discuss their new psychological thriller Fear Of Rain. In the movie they play the parents of a teenage girl named Rain (Madison Iseman) who suffers from early-onset schizophrenia, a condition that causes her to see vivid hallucinations. When Rain suspects their neighbor has kidnapped a child, the duo have to consider whether what their daughter has seen is real or only in her mind.
During the interview, Katherine explained how she was drawn to the project. “What I really loved about the script, and ultimately what I am so proud of when I saw the movie, is that it gives you an opportunity to get inside this young woman’s head and see just how much of a burden living with something like schizophrenia or a mental illness to this degree would be. I hope that audience members can walk away with a little more empathy and compassion, and those who suffer mental illnesses can walk away feeling less alone and able to be more open and honest about it, so that we can all support each other. I think there is just too much shame attached to mental illness.”
The cinematic release of Fear Of Rain was prevented by the COVID-19 pandemic, but the film is now available to buy on Blu-ray, DVD and on demand. Rated PG-13, special features on the home release include a conversational featurette called “Collective Fear” and several deleted scenes.
I don’t know what I should say Katherine but I am a really big fan and I love you so much. I wish you success in all of your life and good health for your beautiful family and your sweet son.
